Traveling together is one of the best things you can do, for a number of reasons:
- You can teach your children amazing things. When was the last time your children had a totally brand new experience? It’s hard to find “new” and “different” things in our own city, state, or country, but when you travel, you encounter things that are way outside your comfort zone. Your children can try new things, taste new foods, see new places, and learn a whole lot of lessons they’d never learn at home.
- Travel is a whole lot of fun. Aside from the challenges that tend to crop up on every trip (misplaced or lost luggage, stolen items, missed planes/buses/trains, getting lost, etc.), travel is a wonderful, enjoyable experience. You can meet new people, see new places, try new foods and drinks, and do things you’d never be able to do at home. You can learn about new cultures, and you will broaden your horizons drastically with every trip. Why do you think so many people travel every year? It’s just so much darn fun!
- You’ll become a more culturally-aware person. Most of us tend to have a bit of “tunnel vision” when it comes to the world around us. Think about the last time you watched the news: you saw a piece on suffering or hardships in Thailand, Rwanda, or Costa Rica, but how much did that affect you? Probably not as much as the news about violence in your own backyard. But if you travel to those countries, it will make things much more real to you. You’ll have seen those places, met those people, and had those experiences. You develop a much better sense of the world around you, making you a better citizen of planet Earth!
